Liverpool are set to ‘receive’ a shock fee from Real Madrid for Trent Alexander-Arnold despite the player being out of contract in the summer.
Real are closing in on the signing of Alexander-Arnold, who is out of contract this summer.
He’s been with Liverpool his entire career, having graduated from the youth academy.
Discussions over the protracted transfer are ongoing as the Spanish side look to secure the 26-year-old before the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
A deal is still to be fully agreed but work towards the transfer is reaching the closing stages, with the club looking to secure another high-profile signing this summer.
Nothing has been signed yet but Real are confident of signing Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer.
Alexander-Arnold is in the final three months of his existing Liverpool deal, with his contract running until June 30.

However, Real are now prepared to pay a fee to sign Alexander-Arnold on June 1 so he can join the rest of the squad ahead of the Club World Cup, which begins on June 15.
A fee of around £5 million is being reported.
Real will pay a fee to acquire his services before his contract expires, having had an approach rejected during the January transfer window.
Liverpool turned down Real’s bid as the Premier League club refused a sale midway through the season. At the time, the Reds were fighting on four fronts.
Real are grouped with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal, Mexico’s Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg in Group H of this summer’s Club World Cup.
The La Liga outfit play their first match on June 18 against Al Hilal in Florida before meeting Pachuca in North Carolina on June 22. They end the group stage phase with a fixture against RB Salzburg in Pennsylvania on June 27.

In a surprising turn of events, Liverpool are reportedly in line to receive a fee from Real Madrid for star player Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite the defender's contract expiring this summer.
Real Madrid are increasingly confident in securing the signature of Alexander-Arnold, a Liverpool academy graduate who has spent his entire professional career at Anfield. The England international is nearing the end of his current deal, making him eligible for a free transfer at the end of June.
Ongoing discussions are aimed at finalizing the much-talked-about transfer. Los Blancos are eager to finalize the acquisition of the 26-year-old right-back before the commencement of the 2025/26 season.
While a complete agreement is still pending, progress is being made, and the transfer is moving closer to completion. Real Madrid are seemingly determined to add another prominent name to their squad this summer as they continue to build for future success. Securing Alexander-Arnold would represent another significant move in the transfer market for the Spanish giants.
Although the initial expectation was for Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid on a free transfer after his Liverpool contract concludes on June 30th, recent developments suggest otherwise.
Alexander-Arnold is currently within the final three months of his Liverpool contract, setting the stage for a potentially complex negotiation period.

Real Madrid's Push for Early Alexander-Arnold Acquisition
Counter to expectations of a free transfer, Real Madrid are now reportedly willing to pay a transfer fee for Alexander-Arnold to ensure he joins the squad by June 1st. This proactive approach would allow him to integrate with the team before the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled to commence on June 15th.
Sources indicate a fee in the region of £5 million is under discussion for this early acquisition. This payment would secure Alexander-Arnold's services prior to his contract officially expiring, marking a significant shift from the anticipated free transfer. It also reveals that Real Madrid's previous attempt to sign the player was rebuffed during the January transfer window.
Liverpool's refusal to sell in January came as they were actively competing on multiple fronts – Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League. Letting go of a key player mid-season was deemed detrimental at a crucial juncture of their campaign.
Looking ahead, Real Madrid are positioned in Group H of the upcoming Club World Cup, alongside Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, Mexican club Pachuca, and Austrian team Red Bull Salzburg.
Their Club World Cup schedule is as follows:
- June 18: vs Al Hilal in Florida
- June 22: vs Pachuca in North Carolina
- June 27: vs RB Salzburg in Pennsylvania
Real Madrid's eagerness to finalize this deal underscores their desire to have Alexander-Arnold available and ready to travel with the team to the United States for the prestigious Club World Cup tournament.
