Premier League SHOCK: Wrexham Break Unthinkable Record! - Hesgoal

The League One club have enjoyed back-to-back promotions over the last two seasons and could be in the top flight by the 2026/27 campaign.

SPORTbible has simulated Wrexham in the Premier League and the results were shocking.

Wrexham have risen in popularity over the past few years since they were taken over by North American actors Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds in February 2021.

Since then, the club has enjoyed back-to-back promotions under Phil Parkinson’s tutelage and will have the chance to secure a third consecutive promotion this season – the Red Dragons are currently second in the third division of English football.

And if they continue on the same trajectory, they could be in the Premier League within two seasons – although this would be a big ask.

So, what happened when we simulated the Red Dragons in the top flight?

Unfortunately for the Welsh side, they won just two of 38 games – away at Everton and at home against Wolves – which landed them the unwanted record of the lowest-ever points total (nine) in the league, two less than the 11 Derby County won during the 2007/08 campaign.

They also scored the fewest goals in Premier League history with just 12.

Luckily for Wrexham supporters, this was just a simulation and if they were to reach the league they would likely recruit higher-quality players than those currently at the club.

Just four years ago, reaching the top flight was a dream but now it is a realistic prospect and Reynolds, 48, gave his thoughts on the matter earlier this year.

“I mean, 10 years from now… we would be morons to not want to see this club in the Premier League but to also be unique in that everything about the place has stayed true to what it originally was – I mean, that’s kind of the perfect scenario,” said Reynolds when speaking on Men in Blazers.

“I remember Rob early on, he was like ‘of course we want to go to the Premier League’, and it eventually got into my cells… hell yes we want that, why wouldn’t we want that?” Reynolds added.

“Who wouldn’t want that? And we can kind of see it, you know?”

The pair purchased the club for around £2m but it is now worth £100m, according to Bloomberg.

Simulated Premier League Season for Wrexham AFC: Record-Breaking Failure or a Glimpse into the Future?

Published: 08:00 GMT, March 26, 2025

Could Hollywood glamour translate to Premier League glory? Not according to a recent simulation by SPORTbible, which paints a bleak picture of Wrexham's potential performance in the top tier of English football. Following their meteoric rise through the leagues, propelled by back-to-back promotions, the beloved Welsh club, under the ownership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, is daring to dream of Premier League football as early as the 2026/27 season.

Since the takeover in February 2021 by the North American actors, Wrexham's popularity has soared globally. On the pitch, manager Phil Parkinson has orchestrated consecutive promotions, and the "Red Dragons" are currently fiercely competing for a third promotion from League Two into League One. The dream of reaching the Premier League, once a distant fantasy, is now gaining traction, although the jump remains a colossal challenge.

Wrexham's Simulated Premier League Campaign: A Season to Forget

To explore this ambitious trajectory, SPORTbible conducted a Premier League simulation featuring Wrexham. The simulated season aimed to answer a crucial question: How would Wrexham fare against the giants of English football?

The answer, unfortunately for Wrexham fans, is stark. The simulation delivered some truly shocking results, forecasting a season of struggle and record-breaking lows.

  • Rock Bottom Finish: Wrexham finished last in the simulated Premier League table.
  • Record Low Points: They amassed a mere nine points throughout the 38-game season. This dismal tally sets a new, unwanted Premier League record, eclipsing the previous low of 11 points held by Derby County in the 2007/08 season.
  • Meagre Victories: The team managed to secure only two wins throughout the entire simulated campaign:
    • An away victory against Everton.
    • A home win against Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves).
  • Goalscoring Woes: Wrexham's attack struggled immensely, netting a paltry 12 goals throughout the season. This also represents a new historical low for goals scored in a Premier League season.
Simulated Premier League Performance vs. Record Lows
Statistic Wrexham Simulation Previous Record (Derby County 2007/08)
Points Total 9 11
Goals Scored 12 20 (Derby County & Huddersfield Town)

It's essential to remember that this was just a simulation. The article rightly points out that should Wrexham achieve Premier League promotion in reality, significant investment in higher-caliber players would be inevitable. The current squad, while successful in lower leagues, would likely need substantial bolstering to compete effectively in the Premier League.

Despite the simulated struggles, the ambition at Wrexham remains undeterred. Ryan Reynolds himself acknowledged the Premier League dream earlier this year, stating on Men in Blazers, "…we would be morons to not want to see this club in the Premier League… hell yes we want that, why wouldn’t we want that? Who wouldn’t want that? And we can kind of see it, you know?”

From a £2 million purchase, Wrexham's value has reportedly skyrocketed to £100 million, highlighting the incredible journey and potential of this club. Will Wrexham defy the simulation and forge a successful path to the Premier League and beyond? Only time will tell.
