Peter Crouch shocked viewers with what he said during a guest appearance on ITV’s coverage of the Cheltenham Festival.
The former Liverpool and England striker, who is a known horse racing enthusiast, was present at Cheltenham to enjoy the action on day two of the Festival.
Crouch was positioned to watch Air of Entitlement, ridden by Rachael Blackmore, secure victory in the opening Novices’ Hurdle at 13:20.
Crouch’s Surprising Live TV Moment
Before the race began, Crouch made a live appearance in the ITV booth to chat with presenter Oli Bell, who likely wasn’t prepared for his guest’s candid response to one of his initial questions.
When Bell asked Crouch if he had ever ridden a horse, the former footballer replied: “Yes. I’ve been on a few horses, yeah. Abbey [Clancy, his wife] likes to ride…”
He then quickly added: “Horses.”
Both men struggled to maintain composure to complete the segment but erupted in laughter, with Crouch adding: “I’ve been thrown off a couple of times!”
Bell responded: “Okay, well we’ll leave it at that!”
Social Media Reaction to Crouch’s Comment
The clip, which ITV shared on Twitter, garnered numerous reactions from viewers:
- “Crouchy is absolutely hilarious.”
- “Cheers for that Crouchy.”
- “Peter Crouch is a national treasure.”
Crouch married model Abbey Clancy in 2011, and the couple has four children together.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mirror, Clancy reflected on their marriage: “When we look back at our wedding day, some of the choices we’ve made, some things we’ve done in the past, we’re like, ‘Bloody hell, who were we then?'”
“But today, we’re still in sync, we’ve got the same interests and the same things that make us laugh. It’s a really happy time for us at the moment.”
The couple has been spotted at various horse racing events over the years, including Royal Ascot in 2019, showing their shared interest in the sport.
Crouch’s candid commentary and quick wit have made him a popular figure both during his playing career and in his post-football media work. His natural humor and relatability continue to endear him to fans across sports.
