Liverpool Setback: Ryan Gravenberch Returns Early Due to Injury

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been dealt an early blow as midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has been forced to cut short his international duty and return to Merseyside due to an injury.

This week sees many Liverpool stars representing their countries in international fixtures, including Nations League and World Cup qualifying matches. Initially, 20 Liverpool players were called up for international duty. Manager Arne Slot will have been hoping that all his key players would return unscathed as Liverpool enters a crucial phase of the Premier League season.

Unfortunately for Liverpool and their fans, news has emerged of an injury to Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch while on international duty with the Netherlands. This has forced him to return to Liverpool for assessment and treatment.

The Dutch national team announced Gravenberch’s withdrawal in a statement:

  • “Ryan Gravenberch has left the Oranje’s training camp this evening.”
  • “The midfielder is still suffering from an injury sustained over the weekend.”
  • “This injury prevents him from participating in the matches against Spain.”

Liverpool Issue Update on Gravenberch’s Fitness

Liverpool Football Club has also released a statement on their official website confirming Gravenberch’s return.

  • “Ryan Gravenberch has departed the Netherlands camp and will not be involved in their fixtures this week due to a fitness issue.”
  • “The 22-year-old midfielder will be assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff upon his return to Merseyside.”
  • “The Reds are preparing to host Everton in a crucial Premier League derby match on April 2nd.”

Ryan Gravenberch has become a key figure in Liverpool’s midfield this season. He has made 41 appearances across all competitions, contributing with two assists. His energetic presence and ball-playing abilities have been valuable assets to the team.

Liverpool currently sits atop the Premier League table, holding a 12-point lead over Arsenal with only nine games remaining. While their position looks strong, recent results have caused some concern among supporters.

In recent matches, Liverpool suffered a defeat against Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League Round of 16 and also lost the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United at Wembley after what many considered a lackluster performance.

Despite these setbacks, manager Arne Slot remains confident. He commented on the team’s recent form, acknowledging the high level of competition:

“If you can beat us in that style of play, you are probably the best in Europe at the moment. But they still need to prove they can maintain this level. It’s important to remember that our week began positively with a win against Southampton, extending our Premier League lead to 12 points. When you compete in major tournaments, the opposition becomes increasingly challenging. Even a team like Liverpool can experience defeats; it’s part of football.”

Liverpool fans will be anxiously awaiting updates on Ryan Gravenberch’s injury as they hope for his swift recovery ahead of the vital Premier League run-in and the Merseyside derby against Everton.
