Published 09:50 26 Mar 2025 GMT
Argentina’s national team players unleashed a brutal chant directed at Barcelona winger Raphinha following their commanding 4-1 victory over Brazil in a pivotal World Cup qualifier match.
The reigning World Cup champions showcased their prowess at the Estadio Mâs Monumental, securing a decisive win with goals from Julian Alvarez, Alexis Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez, and Giuliano Simeone.
Matheus Cunha of Wolves provided a moment of hope for Brazil with a well-taken goal in the 26th minute, but it proved insufficient to prevent Brazil from suffering their most significant defeat in World Cup qualifying history.
Leading up to the highly anticipated clash, Raphinha had publicly taunted the Argentina squad, stating in a TV interview that Brazil intended to “beat them up on the pitch and off the pitch.”
The Barcelona attacker further fueled the rivalry by confidently proclaiming he was “guaranteed” to score during the game. This bold statement became the target of Argentina’s players’ fiery response after their dominant win.
Post-match footage captured the Argentinian players chanting: “A minute of silence… Shh!… For Raphinha who is dead!”
The passionate Argentina home crowd at the stadium also joined in the verbal assault, directing vulgar chants at Raphinha from the stands during the match.
“Sub in Raphinha, you son of a b*tch,” they were heard chanting.

Brazil Captain Marquinhos Apologizes for “Embarrassing” Defeat
Following the heavy defeat, Brazil’s team captain, Marquinhos, issued an apology to the Brazilian fans for what he described as an “embarrassing” performance in the Argentinian capital.
“What we did here can’t happen again,” Marquinhos admitted to Brazilian TV channel Globo.
“It’s hard to process everything right now, in the heat of the moment. But this was embarrassing.”
He further commented, “We had a terrible start to the game, far below our capabilities, and Argentina is a team brimming with confidence right now. They played with intelligence. I sincerely apologize to all our fans.”
Marquinhos also emphasized shared責任, stating: “It’s not solely the coach’s responsibility; the players bear a significant portion of the blame too.”
“There’s no magic formula in football that guarantees success with every decision.”
“We all need to perform better. We must collectively take responsibility for this. It’s about recognizing the current situation and maintaining humility,” he concluded.
